Publishing Your Book

1. Print-On-Demand publishing (POD)
The most popular Print-On-Demand publishing that self-publishing authors use.

Advantages:

*The publisher does all of the promoting of your book and the print-ready artwork and printing.
*Your book also receives an ISBN and is entered into the Amazon and Barnes and Noble online bookseller database.
*You sends your package to the Print-On-Demand publisher containing the book's illustrations and manuscript and then you are required to approve an electronic file of the print-ready artwork before publishing.
*An upfront publishing fee is required (prices can vary from publisher to publisher) and it partially subsidizes the printing costs of your book.
*This means the book buyer can purchase your book at a lower price per book or you can increase your royalty percentage per book.

Points to Remember:

*It's appealing to you as an author because the only thing that you need to do is ok the final electronic sample of your book before the production begins.
*You do not need to find a graphic designer to layout your book, because it is done with your chosen Print-On-Demand publisher.*You will have to search the web to find the best priced Print-On-Demand publisher and they all have different packages to choose from.
*Your next step should be to notify me as to the size your book will be before the sketching stage begins.
*You will knows this size because the Print-On-Demand publisher that you have chosen has listed the book sizes that they print.
*Once your book illustrations have been completed, I will then send the illustrations to you on CD by regular mail or by email.

Steps to be taken with your chosen Print-On-Demand Publisher:

*Find out how your Print-On-Demand Publisher wants to receive your artwork and manuscript,
*Package up the artwork and your manuscript and send it to the Print-On-Demand publisher for publishing.
*While the artwork is always accepted and received on CD, in some case the files can be emailed depending on the size of the electronic file format directly to your POD.
*The Print-On-Demand publishers in-house graphic designer creates the print-ready artwork for your book and sends you an electronic sample of your illustrations with text so that you can get an idea as to how your printed book will look.
*At this point you can request changes if you like or approve the artwork.
*Make sure that you carefully look at the proof so that any mistakes can be caught. Failure to do so will cost you to fix the mistake after it has been approved and printed and could be costly.
*Once you approve the proof, your book is published and shipped to you.

*Your Print-On-Demand publisher should have a "online bookstore marketplace" from which your book can be purchased by the general public and your book will be listed with BarnesandNoble.com, Amazon.com, and others. where it will be available for purchase.

* I also recommend to go a step further to promote your book, by creating your own website where you can sell your books directly to the public. Each customer pays for your book through a PayPal link on your webpage and PayPal places the funds in your PayPal account and then lets you know of the purchase. You then mail a copy of your book to the customer to the address that they have given PayPal. Once your website has been created I can place a link from your samples on my site to your newly created promotional website, as I have done for past and present authors.

Note:

*If you use this publishing method you have paid an upfront publishing fee you have now subsidized the print cost of your book to help make it more affordable for book buyers in the general public to purchase your book.
*You can also try to approach specialty book stores that would carry and sell your book

2. Using Volume Printing (Self-Publishing)

Advantages:

*Lowest print cost per book.
*You can sell your book at a lower price based on the quantity printed and this would mean that your book
has a better chance to sell and this translates into more sales for you,

Disadvantages:

*If your book does not sell? you're left with a large inventory of books and a large printing bill.

Points to Remember:

*The highest risk and reward way of publishing.
*These publishers print their books in volume, and lowers the price per book. (Lower prices means greater sales.)
*The original way of self-publishing and has been around for years.
* The next step should be to notify me as to the size your book will be before the sketching begins.
*You will knows this size because the Print-On-Demand publisher that you have chosen has listed the book sizes that they print.*Once your book illustrations have been completed, I will then send the illustrations to you on CD by regular mail or by email.

The production part of your book.

*A graphic designer (or yourself, if you're a I can do-it-yourself) takes the finished illustrations and combines them with the text of your story to create print-ready artwork files.
*The graphic designer sends you a proof (samples) of the entire book for you to review and approve.
*Once approved, the book is published and is ready for purchase and distribution.
*You'll have to find a method of distribution
like Amazon.com Advantage system or you can create your own website from which you can sell your books.

* I also recommend to go a step further to promote your book, by creating your own website where you can sell your books directly to the public. Note:

*This method is a risky way of publishing that would appeal to someone that is extremely confident of their market and the appeal of their story.
*It would be the best publishing method if you have a signed book order from a reputable company.

3. "I can do it myself"

Advantages:

*Freedom in choosing the methods for promoting your book based on what you can afford and what you're able to do yourself.
*Lowest publishing cost ( No publisher involved)
*No waiting time to get printed, your book can be printed at your local book printer.

Disadvantages:

*Creating print-ready artwork which you can learn through help files on the web and creating your book with the available software that you have,
*There is also the option of outsourcing the layout of your text and illustrations to a professional but at a cost.
